Between all the painting and packing I have been doing I have been trying to sneak in some trips to the thrift store. I know it sounds weird, but even when the thrift store is packed full of people it calms me. Looking through racks and piles of junk is so therapeutic. Finding treasures is obviously a great feeling, but the hunt is really the fun part. Anyone can find a cute vintage dress on Etsy, but finding on in your size for $4, that is a serious high.

Here are a few bits and pieces from recently. The dress above was not thrifted, but bought on Etsy.

Swimming and Thrifting

Here are some shots from our very relaxing weekend. Saturday we went thrifting, where I found all sorts of great things (and only spent $9!). Sunday I made us a fig and peach cobbler for breakfast (in my newly thrifted pink Pyrex) before we went over to my in-law’s house to take Lucy swimming.

I am working on some long blog posts and am hoping to get them up later this week. If I don’t get them posted it is probably because I am busy playing with Lucy. I hope you understand. She has been such a joy lately. Her napping, though still attached to me is becoming more regular again. I must say I feel 150% times better than when she doesn’t nap.

Life According to Instagram

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Someone decided she wanted to play last night instead of sleep, so writing a thoughtful blog post is kind of out of the question today. Yawn. Anyhow, here are some resents from Instagram. If you want to follow me there or on Twitter (pictures get posted there as well) my screen name is MissCedar. Happy Monday!

Friday! Friday! Friday!

I always looked forward to the weekends, but more so than ever now that Lucy is here. It is nice to have a little mama break, and it is amazing watching Lucy and Russ interacting. I love these two so much.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend. I plan on catching up on some sleep!

Last Week on Instagram

Here are a few of my favorites from the past week or so.

What a great response I got to my last post! I am really looking forward to featuring some of your blogs/shops in the side bar. In case you didn’t already see I made a note that spots are all filled, but if you want to put your name on the waiting list, do still leave a comment.

Our weekend went by all too quickly. Russ and I have a bit of exciting news–we are moving! I am not really sure when the move will happen, but we are moving into a condo that will be OURS. No more renting for these folks! Over the weekend we went over and worked a bit on our new place. It needs a ton of work, but it is such an exciting venture. I have so much to think about and plan out, it really makes me giddy!

Anyway, I was looking forward to Lucy napping today so I could sneak a nap myself. Of course the one day when I really desperately want/need a nap, she refuses too. All she wanted to do was eat and play–I guess that is the life I live now!

Happy Monday!

Squash and Chickpea Tortilla Soup

I hadn’t planned on posting this recipe, but got a request for it after I shared the picture on Instagram. I wish I had thought of it earlier, so I could have taken a better picture with my real camera, but you get the idea.

This soup is amazing. It is incredibly simple to make, but tastes like a million bucks. Seriously make it, you won’t be sorry.

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped (I used red, but any color is delicious)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 can chickpeas
  • 2 cups summer squash, chopped
  • 1 cup salsa (use the good stuff, not la victoria, I used salsa from the Mexican market down the street)
  • 4 cups vegetable broth
  • cheese (cheddar or jack)
  • tortilla chips or strips (I cut three tortillas up and fried them real quick)
  • fresh cilantro, chopped
  1. In a large pot over medium heat saute onion and bell pepper until tender. Add garlic, cook for two more minutes.
  2. Add cumin, lemon juice, broth, salsa, corn, chickpeas, and squash. Bring to a low simmer. Cook until squash is tender. Top with chips, cheese, and cilantro.
  3. Note: Because you are adding a prepared salsa you may not need to add salt, I didn’t. Taste your soup before adding any. For an extra kick add chilli powder.

This Week on Instagram

I have seen a few other bloggers do this and thought I would join in on posting weekly photos from my Instagram. Some of these pictures were just too cute not to share (mainly the last one, which I am obsessed with).

An update on the fussy baby situation:

I came to realize that Lucy needed her day restructured a bit. We had gotten so used to her taking a few short morning naps in the sling, that it didn’t even occur to me she might change and need a longer morning nap. The last five days or so we have added a two hour morning nap into our routine, and she (and especially I) couldn’t be happier. Now she is back to her happy self, and really only fusses at that dreaded time right before bed. It sure is amazing how quickly babies change!

iPhone

This morning I woke to find a very naughty cat knocked my phone off the counter. Unfortunately it was broken beyond repair. Fortunately I splurged and got an iPhone. I am in love. My old phone was four or so years old and I was greatly in need of an upgrade.

Anyhow, I spent the afternoon messing around with it and downloading apps like Instagram, which I am completely obsessed with (my username is misscedar if you want to follow me). I also added Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, Project 365, as well as some others. Any other app recommendations (preferably free, since I spent enough on this phone already)?
