Some new Heywood Wakefield

I have been known to get messages from the thrift stores. I don’t know how to describe it other than a strong urge or pull to go to one particular store, where I always score big. These differ from my casual, eh, I feel like perusing a bunch of junk, because they are intense and I always find something.  I usually get one every few weeks or so, and I usually leave with a cart full of amazing finds.

Other times the thrift store doesn’t send me a message, but a friend does. Two days ago one of my closest friends sent me a picture text of the above furniture saying “heywood wakefield at salvation army”. I turned off the stove, threw some clothes on both Lucy and I, grabbed my purse and the ergo, and was out the door in oh, a minute and a half. My friend was sweet enough to stay and wait for me to arrive, and then help me haul it all home. I love her.

I purchased a dining table, two chairs, two end tables, and a coffee table, all for under $300. Now it isn’t the blonde Heywood Wakefield that I dream of furnishing my entire house in when I am rich, but it is absolutely gorgeous, and I love it. There was also a hutch, which was marked at $400. I was seriously trying to find away to scrounge the money together to purchase it (it was the blonde wood!), when I realized it was already being purchased and packed away into a car. Sad face.

I am considering selling the end tables, because they really don’t fit into our house, but I hate breaking up the set.

We Are Moved!

It’s official. We are 100% moved into our new home!

To say I am exhausted would be a bit of an understatement. I just nursed Lucy to sleep, wolfed down a burrito from the taco shop, and am now enjoying a glass of wine and Halloween H20 (our cables not up yet and the original Halloween wasn’t available on Netflix).

This picture was snapped last night after we had finished moving for the day. Russ set up the TV and I arranged some furniture. It is now far more cluttered with half opened boxes, as we spent today moving the remainder of our stuff–but it is beautiful. I am so, so happy. This is how I always wanted my home to look (well, with our things out of the boxes).

Last night after we unloaded our final load of boxes and furniture for the day, two different neighbors stopped by to say hi and introduce themselves. It was such a nice surprise, I have never lived somewhere where the neighbors were so friendly. The second lady who stopped by lives across the path from us and has a baby girl who is 10 days younger than Lucy. I am so happy that there will be other babies around for Lucy to play with.

That’s all for the night. This mama is pooped.

Decorating our New Home

Things are looking up here. This weekend is our big moving weekend, my ear is feeling ever so slightly better (still not great, but I will take it!), Halloween is just days away, and I am finally starting to get excited about our new home. In the past month I have been thrifting and estate sale-ing like crazy, trying to find things to decorate. A new home needs some new (well, to us anyway) things to put in them, right?

I found these amazing curtains at an estate sale last weekend. There was a box of them (4 panels) for $20. How could I possibly say no?  They need a good cleaning and to be hemmed, but I think they will look fantastic in our green kitchen.

The lamp I found in a thrift store a few weeks back for $12. It had a hideous shade on it, which I threw in the dumpster immediately after buying it (really, it was totally 80′s, cracked, torn, and mashed in on one side, no one would have wanted it). I found the perfect shade on eBay.

Little things like this are making me super excited about the move. I can’t wait to see what our new home looks like all set up.

Painting Places

I just wanted to stick my head in here and say that it might be a little slower around the blog for a little while, though I am going to try my very hardest to get 3 or 4 posts up a week. It really hit me today when I went to paint the new condo, just how much work I have to do. Russ had to go to a convention for work, so his mom and I went over and painted the living room and the 1/2 bath. Okay, I painted and she played with Lucy, but a lot got done. (See Lucy there in the play pin reading?)

Tomorrow I am going to go over and try to get the kitchen painted in a beautiful jade color. We are using colors from the Sherwin-Williams historic colors series. I really can’t wait to get it all set up with our furniture. It is such a nice feeling knowing that we can do whatever we want to this place. I already have a huge list in my head of house projects, it really makes me excited!
