We are finally settled into our new apartment. Though I still have quite a bit of moving/unpacking to do, both Russ and I have quickly turned our new apartment into our home–even without everything in its place yet! We spent the entire past weekend moving, and while Russ has been working through the week I have continued moving. We both feel quite exhausted but happy, it really is so nice to have (most) our things surrounding us again.
We do have the luxury of not having to move everything in right away (my dad has lots of storage in his home), so now that I have all the essential things (clothes, kitchen supplies, bathroom things), I plan on doing the rest of the moving at a bit slower pace. Unfortunately through the flood and move we had to get rid of our couch–which just means I can find an amazing new one. Until then though we are sitting on our single chair and kitchen chairs in the living room.
This morning I started moving more of my closet over. This is probably only about ten percent of my hanging clothes, but it sure feels nice to start filling the closet up!
Another thing I am super excited about is access to an oven! When we moved into the apartment out back of my aunt’s house she promised to get it fixed within the month that we moved in, and guess what–it never happened! I have been spending lots of time in our new kitchen, doing a ton of baking. Today I was really craving a piece of lemon meringue pie, so here it is! I followed this recipe.
Thank you again everyone for your support, I plan on returning to regular posting now that we are mostly moved in. I hope all is well with you.
Hello dolls. I just wanted to post a quick update on where we are right now. Things are definitely looking up, and I will most likely be back to my regular posting within a week or so.
Shortly after our major flood, the husband and I felt it best to get the remainder of our items out of the place we were living and start the hunt for a new apartment. With a little less than stellar credit on both our parts, this proved to be a bit more difficult than we anticipated. We have been living at Russell’s parents house since last week, while also trying to find a new home. This means that we are living out of suitcases, and our cats are cramped up in a tiny bedroom. Not the ideal situation–even though I love his family dearly.
Anyhow, on Sunday we found and applied to an apartment that we absolutely loved. It is a super spacious one bedroom, with lots and lots of storage space. Besides that the manager is incredibly sweet, and definitely someone whom I would love to be giving my rent check to. She called an hour ago and asked us to meet her tomorrow so we can go sign the lease! I am beyond extatic, and really, really looking forward to being settled and getting back to my old routines again.
Thank you all for your support and kind words through these tough times. I really am anxious to start posting again, and get caught up on the blogs I haven’t been able to read.
I just wanted to make a quick announcement to say that I will be unable to post on this blog for (hopefully only) a short period of time. The reason for this is some rather bad luck. First my computer got infected with a nasty virus, and will now only open porn sites. We brought it in to get worked on, but I am unsure how long I will be without computer access.
The second thing that happened is we came home this weekend to find it literally raining indoors. We are the bottom floor in an apartment, and there was heavy downpour of water coming through our ceiling. Unfortunately it did quite a bit of damage to my books and a lot of my vintage clothes got soaked. We moved all that stuff out to my dad’s house in his extra room and have it all airing out. As of right now though I am unsure what our next step is, but I just wanted to let everyone know that I may be away for a bit while I try to put the pieces back together.
I hope everyone who celebrates had a very happy Christmas. I had hoped on updating on Sunday, but have been rather sick for the past few days. I have felt like such a blob, sitting on the couch for the past two and a half days watching movies and TV. I really hope I can get up tomorrow and work on some housework. Our apartment is looking quite frightful.
Russ and I had a wonderful Christmas. We got to spend a lot of time with both of our families, we ate entirely too much food, cooked lots of pies, made peanut brittle, drank mimosas, and just tried to make the most of the holiday that my family members seem to dread. I honestly can’t think of a better Christmas though. It was relaxing, fun, and what I hope all other Christmases in my future are like.
I got spoiled beyond belief. My dad gave me a new camera as a gift, so pictures will now resume on the blog!
My mother in law also went overboard in amazing gifts. She found some incredible vintage hats and several amazingly beautiful hat pins for me. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel well enough to get fully made up and snap some outfit photos wearing one of the hats.
On top of those amazing gifts my mother in law also got me this huge lot of the Vernonware Raffia dishes I was pining over in an earlier post. She kept asking what I wanted for Christmas– I guess Russ must have told her I was starting to collect this set.
How was your Christmas? I would love to hear all about the goodies everyone else received!
Well I hate to follow up my last post with bad news…but my digital camera officially kicked the bucket today. It had been on it’s way out for the past few months, making it incredibly difficult to take any photos. While trying to get some snapshots today I realized it was finished.
Fortunately a very nice person in my life told me they would replace it for Christmas. So shortly after Christmas there will be photos again. Until then you will have to deal with the Christmas music I love.
I absolutely despise beginning each post with an apology for the lack of frequent blog updates, but when I go this long I do feel bad about not updating my wonderful followers, as well as not keeping up to date on all the fantastic blogs out there!
Saying I have been busy is a bit of an understatement. Not only did I have a final research project due in my English class (plus a presentation!) resting on my shoulders, but it seems as though all the holiday parties fell over the past two weekends. Since my birthday passed about a week ago, I also decided to try and throw a small cocktail party into my already hectic schedule.
Anyway, enough excuses. As of today I am done with classes for the semester. I can’t wait to get back to all the things I have been putting off–sewing, painting, thrifting, reading, going to the gym, oh yeah and blogging!
I hope everyone is staying nice and warm and enjoying the Holiday season thus far. If you are anything like me, you never get sick of holiday songs, just certain singers who sing them poorly! Here is my favorite lady singer.
A very warm hello to all the new visitors and followers that made there way over here from Sew Retro this past weekend!
I joined and made my first post on Friday, and have gotten the most wonderful feedback from readers. It is such a fun community full of so many incredibly talented ladies (and maybe men too?). Just browsing the pages and looking at other people’s sewing projects is really inspiring.
This week is going to be crazy for me, as I am sure it will be for everyone else that lives in the US, as we all need to prepare for Thanksgiving. I am going to try my very best to update regularly this week, so expect to see a lot of baking around here!
Here is a funny little vintage Thanksgiving commercial that I just love.
Just wanted to update you on what the deal is with the lack of posts.
This Saturday I am catering my dear friend Angi’s vegan wedding. The next few days are going to be insanely busy for me, as I haven’t ever catered such a large party before, and I want everything to go as well as it possibly can. Do expect to see an update Sunday with lots of pictures from the party!
Hello and welcome to my newest blogging venture, The Vintage Wife.
This blog is going to be a place where I can share my obsessions with vintage style, culture, and music, as well as ventures I take in my own life to lead a more vintage life style.
Though I consider my views quite liberal, I live and prefer to live in a very old fashioned manor. On these pages you are likely to find everything from fashion, to my newest etsy obsessions, links I love, my recent home decor ideas, or recipes from last night’s dinner.
Unlike previous blogs I have written for I am doing this one purely for myself. I hope that it will encourage me to become more focused on the things I love to do, as well as help me grow towards becoming the person I strive to be. At the same time, I do love readers, and love interacting with you, so please, please leave a comment to introduce yourself!
