This isn’t actually something I wore yesterday, though if I had made plans to get out of the house, I would have loved to wear it out! I really just threw on the dress so I could model the hat I got at an estate sale almost two weeks ago. I absolutely love this style of hat, and was thrilled to find it. I honestly have been scouring both etsy and eBay for months looking for this exact hat! The estate sale we went to had a pretty good selection of vintage hats, most of which I liked, but when I saw this one, I grabbed it, and wouldn’t let it go! Finding a hat that I have been hunting for months for, and having it actually fit my gigantic head, was such a nice way to start my weekend.
I have so many dresses like this one, that I never get an opportunity to share, because I almost always wear it to an evening or nighttime event. I love cocktail dresses, and it seems that it is all I find when I go thrifting. I am not complaining, because I love having tons of cocktail dresses, but it would be nice to start finding some daytime looks to wear as well.

Anyway, it is rainy and grey here today, but I have another outfit post to share tomorrow. Two outfit posts in two days–must be a record for me!

I haven’t really had many opportunities lately to put on a decent outfit because of all the moving. Today however I had to go down to the mall and look for a gift for someone. I hate going out in public looking like I do when I am working on things around the house, so I spiffed myself up. All this meant was combing my hair and throwing on a nicer dress. I bought this one about two weeks ago, when we were staying at Russ’ parents house and still unsure when we would be able to move into the new apartment.
I tried this new way of styling my hair yesterday. All I did was use the flat iron to straighten and bump under the ends of my hair. The nice thing about the flat iron is it lasts really well overnight, and I only have minor touch ups to do. Yesterday I wasn’t sure what I thought of the style, thinking it was a bit too straight for me, but it is really starting to grow on me.

Dress & Shoes: Thrifted
Ever since my computer got that virus last month and we got it repaired, I haven’t been able to crop/edit my photos. I still need to find my Photoshop disc and reinstall it on the computer. I may be a bit late to the party, but I just yesterday discovered Picnik. Though it is pretty limited (unless you want to upgrade), it is a pretty nice online photo editor, and has some fun features that I was messing around with on this photo (I gave this the 1960’s effect).

A few years back I found what is probably one of my favorite books in my collection. It is Family Circle’s Guide to Beauty, published in 1964. I have done many of the styles on my own hair, an have actually learned some great tips while browsing the 192 pages of joy in this book.
I just love the style of the early 60’s. Makeup, hair, and clothes were all about glamour and drama. While I like to go all out when I am getting dressed, many of the early 60’s styles would be so easy to incorporate into a modern woman’s wardrobe. Here are two scans I love from the book. The first is called the side sweep, and the second is the glamour bob.
Make sure to click the image to read how to achieve these looks!
