vintage thrifted finds

Hey friends, I hope your summer (or winter) is going well. It is hot, hot, hot here. I look at the number and it is never as hot as I think it is or that it will get, but I literally feel like I am melting at all times of day and night. Being pregnant during the summer is serious business! One thing that I can always rely on to be nice and cool is the thrift store, not that I need an excuse, but the nice air conditioned thrift stores provide a nice change of scenery when Lucy and I start to get cabin fever. She will usually grab a toy or two, hop in the shopping cart and play for a little while as I waddle down the thrift store isles.

On to some of my recent finds.

1. This set of Marcrest Swiss Chalet dishes. I have talked about them in the past here. I have a friend who collects this set, but I may just have to hang on to these for a little while, I am really in love with them. (Sorry Erin!)

2. I have been building up a collection of enamel dishes and pots for picnics and future camping trips. Also, plaid linens and blankets, because only plaid will do when you are camping! I have been dreaming of camping all summer long, but not while pregnant. I hope to get back into it next year.

3. A few randoms. Pyrex, which I pretty much quit buying quite some time ago (I still need to sell off quite a bit of my hoarded dishes!), but this is my favorite print. That little girl, I don’t even have words for how much I love her chubby cheeks and bedroom eyes. I plan to use her to keep my makeup brushes in. A little bird wall vase.

Have you had any good thrifts lately?

What gorgeous finds! I haven’t been to the thrift store in ages but I agree, it’s a welcome retreat from the awful summer heat! I especially love your beautiful Swiss Chalet dishes- one of my favorite patterns too!

Sooo lovely!!! I adore the bluebird and leaf hat adorned girl in particular.

Not a lot shaking on the thrift front here lately. Vintage finds get fewer and further between around these parts at such stores with each passing year (if not month), unfortunately. Still, you never know when luck will strike! I found two late 50s hats at the Salvation Army in 2012 and that has really helped fuel my fires even during long vintage dry spells ever since. (There have been other vintage finds here and there since then, just nothing noteworthy for quite a while.)

Enjoy all of your lovely “new” treasures!
    ♥ Jessica

I love treasure hunting at my local thrift shops. Recently I got to do some thrifting with a friend while on a mini-vacation. We found a lovely 1950′s navy blue wool coat with a grey mink fur collar that just looks fabulous on my friend and for me we found a late 40′s (by best guess) red straw tilt had with feathers. Thank you for your blog, I’m enjoying your posts.

I love all your Pyrex, I recently started collecting it and just a couple of days ago found a casserole dish to match a mixing bowl I have for 99 cents! I was so excited! I have that lime green color too, a recent find at a church sale for .50 cents in perfect shape.
