Canned Tomatoes

By Cedar | September 13, 2011

Saturday Lucy and I went over to my cousin’s house for a visit. She has a beautiful vegetable garden that was exploding with all sorts of veggies, especially tomatoes. She was sweet enough to give us an enormous bag full (seriously, the paper grocery bag was full). Sunday I spent the better half of a day canning them. In the end we had eight beautiful quart sized jars full of tomatoes to use when tomatoes are no longer in season.

I really need to get back into canning. It is wonderful to have food that you love on hand when it they are not in seasonal. What is the brand of your kitchen scale, it is lovely!

The scale is by Dulton. It was originally off white. I picked it up at the thrift store, painted it green, and found a bowl that fit on top.

Nom nom. I am always a bit nervous about canning, I am a bit of a worrier when it comes to bacteria and I am always afraid I haven’t been careful enough with the sterilizing part. I do realize that if the contents are boiling hot when they go in, they practically do the job for you, but even still I tend worry lol. I have 3 jars of blackberry vodka on the go for Christmas and I have the ingredients for apple cinnamon jelly to do later this week,so I am not completely hopeless ;)
