I know, it seems a little late in the season to be getting my first tomato, but this is my first time growing vegetables and really I feel quite proud. Gardening this year has been quite an adventure. There have been some definite ups and downs (sorry to all the plants I killed along the way!). In the end though I really have learned a lot. I am already browsing seed catalogs trying to decide what tomatoes I want to grow next year.
I have four huge tomato plants, all full of medium sized green tomatoes. I was shocked to see one of the plants sprout up so much more than the others, it is about six feet tall currently and still growing! In about a week or two I should be up to my neck in ripe tomatoes.

It’s heart shaped, you must share it with Russ;

It’s a cute tomato. Hope you get lots more in the coming weeks.
It was our first year with tomatoes in the apartment. We got a beefsteak and an Isis candy plant, both shot up to 2 feet in height but we no fruit on them at all just leaves.
What are you going to do with your plants over the winter?

Laura- I live in Southern California where we hardly (if ever) get frost in the winter. I think this year will be an experiment for me to see what I can and can’t grow. I plan on keeping my herb garden growing (which does well all year in San Diego). Things like lettuce and beans grow really well here during the winter, so I plan on growing some of each…
